Windows Vista: Finally Cracked!

A group has finally been able to crack the Windows Vista activation scheme. And it is nothing like the ‘brute-force’ hoax that appeared two days ago!
I must admit though, I’m actually impressed by the fact that it took so long for a decent crack to surface. I guess all the developers in the windows team should feel really proud. I remember my friends were already downloading XP before it hit the shelves. It’s already been over 2 months since the Vista release and no one had been able to come up with a successful method for activating it.
Now the world’s most secure OS (the one that was claimed to be the holy grail for stopping software pirates) is just another piece of software that will be distributed via DVD-Rs, P2P, etc, etc. Not that it wasn’t being distributed already, but pirates had been unable to activate it until today and that was holding back a lot of people.
So, how did they do it? Let me quote…
“Microsoft allows large hardware manufacturers (e.g. ASUS, HP, Dell) to ship their products containing a Windows Vista installation that does NOT require any kind of product activation as this might be considered an unnecessary inconvenience for the end-user.
Instead these so-called ‘Royalty OEMs’ are granted the right to embed certain license information into their hardware products, which can be validated by Windows Vista to make obtaining further activation information (online or by phone) obsolete.
This mechanism is commonly referred to as ‘SLP 2.0′ (’system-locked pre-installation 2.0′) and consists of the following three key elements:
1. The OEM’s hardware-embedded BIOS ACPI_SLIC information signed by Microsoft.
2. A certificate issued by Microsoft that corresponds to the specific ACPI_SLIC information.
The certificate is an XML file found on the OEM’s installation/recovery media, usually called something like ‘oemname.xrm-ms’.
3. A special type of product key that corresponds to the installed edition of Windows Vista.
This key can usually be obtained from some installation script found on the OEM’s installation/recovery media or directly from a pre-installed OEM system.
If all three elements match Windows Vista’s licensing mechanism considers the given installation a valid system-locked pre-activated copy (that does not require any additional product activation procedures).”
By simulating the hardware specs from the ‘Royalty OEMs’, users are now able to activate their Vista installation.
Does it work? A load of users have tried it and successfully activated their copies of Vista.
I wont even try it. I’m happy with my Ubuntu 6.10 installation and I only switch to XP whenever I need to use some application for which I’m unable to find a viable alternative in linux. I also think Vista is just an overrated, overpriced, and overrestrictive piece of crap. Go Beryl!

¿which aplicattions do you use in windows that do not have a viable alternative in gnu/?linux

Gimp == Photoshop?
OpenOffice == ACCESS + VB?
XXX == Dreamweaver?

Office: I do use OpenOffice whenever Im writing simple documents or presentations. But the truth is, OOo and MS Office interoperability is not that great, and sometimes my documents will look awful when opened with Office. So if I’m creating a document that I intend to send to someone and Im going to use extensive formatting, Ill use Office.
Visio: I have used Dia a couple of times, but again, when Im developing diagrams that will be sent to my collaborators, I have to stick to Visio.
Illustrator: Inkscape just doesn’t cut it for me.
Dreamweaver: My Web design skill aren’t anything to be proud of, so I strongly rely on WYSIWYG tools to design templates and the sort. Once I’ve designed the interface I can switch to open-source tools for the rest of the code. I’ve tried a couple of webdev tools in linux, but they cant seem to match dreamweaver in terms of productivity and ease.
uTorrent: I hate Azureus and I havent been able to find a decent alternative to uTorrent in linux. I tried deluge (which looks cool) but it wont work. Probably due to some problem with my libtorrent because non of the clients that rely on it work on my installation. I also tried uTorrent through Wine, but it wont work either.

JAJAJA oiegan people saben algo creo k no tienen ningun conocimiento acerca de windows vista por k he leido que algunas personas le han puesto con activaciones al momento de INSTALAR el windows vista OJO no deben de hacer eso por que si lo hacen la compañia de windows los cacha y se jodieron ok yo tengo un crack que no me ha fallado en nada y NECESITAN ayuda en algo este es mi correo——— andromedas_groaca@hotmail.com———-
